MISSION &
JURISDICTION

NWANA exists to build a consistent, repeatable framework for Nordic Walking as a competitive sport in North America: rules, sanctioning standards, validated results, rankings, education, and delegated growth through operators.

NWANA is not a wellness/fitness authority. NWANA exists for the “sport layer”: standards, validation, and credible competition structure.

MISSION

Make Nordic Walking measurable, comparable, and scalable as a sport.

🎯

Mission Statement

The mission of the Nordic Walking Association of North America (NWANA) is to establish and maintain an institutional foundation for the development of Nordic Walking as a competitive sport discipline — through consistent rules, procedures, and standards that allow results to be compared across events and regions.

We do this by publishing the framework and enabling local execution (organizers, clubs, and operators).

🏗️

Mission Objectives

  • Publish standards for competition, technique, course requirements, judging, and reporting.
  • Sanction events run by local organizers under clear, repeatable requirements.
  • Validate results so rankings and athlete pathway stages have credibility.
  • Build education (coaches/judges/officials) so events can run professionally.
  • Scale locally through delegated Regional Operators who grow territories under NWANA standards.
Core idea: NWANA makes competitions consistent — so clubs and organizers can build a real sport market, not isolated one-off events.

JURISDICTION

Clear scope: NWANA governs its own sport framework — not the entire activity of Nordic Walking.

⚖️

Scope

NWANA’s jurisdiction is limited to the operation of its published framework: rules, standards, sanctioning requirements, validation/verification procedures, rankings systems, education standards, and licensing status within NWANA programs.

🧭

Territory

NWANA operates within the scope of applicable law and within the territories where it runs programs and partnerships across North America. Local execution happens via clubs, organizers, and delegated operators.

🛑

Limitations

  • NWANA does not regulate wellness, recreation, or commercial fitness services.
  • NWANA does not claim monopoly over the term “Nordic Walking.”
  • NWANA does not replace independent organizers or private initiatives.
Practical meaning: NWANA is the standards & validation layer. Anyone can organize an event — but sanctioned + validated events create comparable results.

INTERNATIONAL CONTEXT

Coordination formats that do not expand NWANA’s authority.

🌍

Engagement

NWANA may communicate and coordinate with international and foreign organizations to support rules compatibility, officiating standards, and athlete participation pathways in global events.

🛡️

No Expansion of Authority

International engagement does not create exclusive rights or expand NWANA’s jurisdiction. Any formal status must be defined by published documents and program rules.
